1. What are the root causes of persecution?
I think that persecution starts when one person or a group of people believe that they are superior to another person or group of people. This results in feelings of hate and as a result, they attempt to hurt one another.

2. What are some current examples of persecution that take place in today's world?
Persecuting those that have different religious and/or political views. There is also the persecution (or more like discrimination against) women in some countries.

3. What does Night teach us about what it means to be human?
When Elie and Schlomo go through all the camps, all of their human qualities are taken away from them. They no longer had a name, but a number. The only choice they had was to obey orders or commit suicide, and the ties that develop between friends and family break and you will kill someone for a crust of bread. Being a human with a name, choises and relationships is a blessing within itself.

4. What can we learn from reading this book?
The first thing that struck me while reading this book was how lucky I am that I haven't had to experience any hardships like that of Elie and his family. Thank goodness we aren't going through something like that, but Elie does a good job of taking us through what he experienced so that we can learn valuable lessons through the past.
